Church services will be held today to remember PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes, who were shot dead on Tuesday.

At 11am a mass will take place in the Church of St James the Great on Underwood Road in Hattersley.

The Rt Rev. Mark Davies, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Shrewsbury, will be leading prayers at the church near the scene of the shootings.

A statement issued by the Diocese of Shrewsbury reads: “The Rt Rev. Mark Davies will lead prayers for PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes and their families, friends and work colleagues.

“The parish is close to the scene of the double murder of the police officers on the morning of Tuesday September 18.

“Bishop Davies will be making a pastoral visit to the community still in shock from the terrible events.”

A book of condolence will be opened at Kiln Green Church in Diggle, where PC Nicola Hughes lived, between 1pm and 5pm.

A service will also take place at St Michael and All Angels Church in Mottram at 4pm.
