Police in Lancashire are looking for a thief who stole an iPhone from the hands of a baby girl.
Twenty-month-old Luella Reid was watching a film featuring Barney the Dinosaur on the device while sitting in her pram when the thief took it from her.
At first, Luella's mum, 26 -year-old Danielle Hinnigan, thought her daughter had dropped the phone when she heard the tot say: ''Mummy, Barney gone, gone.''
The incident happened at a clothes shop called Hype in Ormskirk town centre at about 12noon on Saturday September 22.
Today, Danielle told the Liverpool Echo she was left feeling sick and disgusted by the thief’s actions.
She said : “Luella loves Barney and was watching a show on my phone. I thought maybe she had dropped it. I never thought someone would go in her pram and take it off her.
“I’m just glad it was just the phone and Luella was OK. He’s followed me into that shop, to think he has targeted my daughter is disgusting. Everyone is absolutely disgusted - her dad was really angry and upset.”
Lancashire Police believe the thief - shown on the shop's CCTV to be a middle-aged man with grey hair and glasses - may have had a female accomplice.
West Lancs inspector Andy Willis said: “This is a despicable offence where it appears that the suspect has deliberately targeted a child knowing the crime would be relatively easy to commit. I would urge anyone with any information to contact PC 659 Holdsworth on 101 and ask for Lancashire Police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
