In August we asked viewers to tell us about the extraordinary people in their community who make life better for those around them.
It was all part of ITV's search for a potential winner in the Local Hero section of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards. We've been inundated with entries and all this week we'll be meeting some of the people nominated.
We start with Ann and Terry Panks, who run Copperdale Trust House in Wythenshawe. It used to be a police station but now their home acts as a refuge for homeless, desperate and troubled young people who have nowhere else to turn.
