American news programmes have reported on the tributes paid to Mike Jones, the Tarleton-born coach stabbed to death in New York.

Cathryn Kaehr, a parent of one of the New York Red Bulls' youth side that Mike coached said: "If I was chatting with him before a game he'd look at his watch and say 'gotta go, I only have a few minutes left to change their lives'".

Dave Jervis, director of the Red Bulls training programme said: "Everybody is in complete shock right now. For those that met Michael, 'Jonesy' as we know him as, you only had to meet him once to know what impression he left on all the kids he worked with."

Others, including players coached by Mike also paid tribute, but it was left to Cathryn Kaehr to sum up her feelings: "One day, I hope to tell the world that my son was discovered by the great Mike Jones."
