Bolton Council has issued a personal apology to families affected after an independent report revealed significant flaws in the running of one of its care homes.

The report revealed a lack of clear leadership and strong management at the home for disabled adults.

The chief executive of the council, Sean Harriss, has spoken to the families of three people who lived at the property and apologised for past inadequacies.

We take full responsibility for the concerns highlighted in the report and intend to take swift action in order to improve the service."

Two former carers at the home, Ann Leach and Joanne Robinson, were found guilty of abusing residents and sentenced to prison earlier this year.
