The results of the five new police and crime commissioners in the North West are expected to be announced later today.
The police and crime commissioners' role is to listen to their communities and act accordingly.
They will be making key decisions on things like the budget, CCTV to tackling gangs and drug-dealing.
See below for a list of some of their responsibilities:
- Holding the chief constable to account for the delivery of the force
- Setting and updating a police and crime plan
- Setting the force budget
- Regularly engaging with the public and communities
- Appointing, and where necessary dismissing, the chief constable
The five elected PCCs will take office on 22nd November.
