Two Accrington sudden deaths could be 'linked to drugs'

A woman has been arrested after the sudden deaths of two people in separate incidents, which detectives say could be linked to drugs.

The body of a 40-year-old man was found at an address at Victoria Street, Church shortly after 10.40pm last night (Monday, November 26th).

Police were called to an address at Wellington Court in Accrington today by the ambulance services, where they found the body of a 36-year-old woman.

Although the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained, police believe the deaths are drugs-related.

"We are investigating two deaths at separate locations where drugs may have been a factor.

It is too early to say whether the cause of the deaths are connected, but we are concerned that there could be a particularly strong or contaminated batch of Class A drugs in the area and I would urge anyone who uses drugs like heroin or cocaine and who may be concerned to contact their local healthcare provider."

– Detective Inspector Jill Johnston

A 51-year-old woman from Accrington has been arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs and is being questioned.

Police are appealing for anyone who has information about the supply of Class A drugs or who has any knowledge about where this particular batch may have come from to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 immediately.
