An 83-year-old man has died in a road collision in Salford. At about 4.45pm on Saturday 8 December 2012, the man was crossing Leicester Road, at the junction with Granville Street, when he was in collision with a dark-coloured Citreon C1 driven by a 22-year-old man. The pedestrian suffered severe head injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He died a short time later at hospital. A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody for questioning. Leicester Road is expected to remain closed for several hours while an investigation is carried out. PC Neil Pennington, of GMP’s Serious Collision Reconstruction Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident in which an elderly man has lost his life. “We made a quick arrest and will now continue a thorough investigation into exactly what happened. “We have made a number of inquiries at the scene and in the surrounding area and we now appealing for witnesses to come forward.” Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Reconstruction Unit on 0161 856 4741.
