Police have said a man in Chorlton awoke on Christmas Day to find an intruder standing over his bed.
The startled man recieved stab wounds as he tried to push the intruder out of his bedroom.
Detective Constable Chris Clarke, based at West Didsbury, said: “To be woken by an intruder in your bedroom is a complete nightmare that we all hope will never happen to us.
“Thankfully, the victim had the presence of mind to remain calm and, recognising the offender was becoming increasingly agitated, attempted to force him out of his bedroom.
“He was stabbed a couple of times but thankfully the injuries were relatively superficial and his scars should heal quite soon. The psychological upset of being attacked in your own bedroom like this will take longer to get over however.
“I now want to year from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the early hours of Christmas morning to get in touch.”
