Police have issued a new photo of missing Michael Simpson, as the search for him continues.
The photo was taken only a few hours before he was last seen in the early hours of Tuesday 1 January 2013.
Michael, aged 22 and from Heaton Norris, was last seen at 2am as he attended a New Year’s Eve party at a friend’s house on Stockport Road West in Bredbury with his girlfriend and other friends.
A short time later, Michael became separated from his friends and left the house, leaving behind his coat and backpack.
Michael had a short text conversation with his girlfriend shortly before 2.30am, in which he told her he had left the party and was lost. He has not been seen or heard from since.
Michael is described as slim build, around 5ft 6in tall, with light brown hair and blue eyes, wearing black framed glasses. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black V-neck jumper with a white T-shirt underneath, blue jeans and white trainers.
Superintendent John Berry from GMP’s Stockport division said: “It is now more than a week since Michael was last seen. Officers have been searching and speaking to people around the Bredbury and surrounding area, as well as scouring through hours of CCTV to piece together Michael’s movements before he went missing.
“Michael’s family and friends are understandably beside themselves with worry and have also been making huge efforts to raise awareness of his disappearance and encourage people to contact police with any sightings of him."
Michael’s girlfriend, Jennie Langley, 22, who was with Michael on the night he disappeared, said: “The past week has been incredibly hard for myself and all of Michael’s family and friends.
“For Michael to leave the party without telling either myself or his friends was completely out of character. He is always the one that looks after people when we’re out. Even if I’ve been out on my own, he waits up for me to get in to make sure I’m safe.
“If anyone has any information at all, no matter how small, that they think might help us to find Michael, please come forward and speak to the police.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police at Stockport CID on 0161 856 9740.
