A football tournament will take place in memory of Mike Jones, a New York Red Bulls youth football coach who was stabbed to death in Manhattan on 7 October last year.

The 25-year-old from Tarleton was found with a severed ear and stab wounds to his torso and neck. He was taken to the nearby Bellevue Hospital but died shortly after.

Twelve six-a-side teams will be competing, with some players travelling from the United States to take part. Mike's father and brother will also be playing in a match.

Mike Jones began his sporting career playing for Tarleton Corinthians. He moved to the US to coach children aged between seven and 13 for the New York Red Bulls.

The tournament is taking place at the all-weather football pitches in Hesketh Bank. The first round begins at 12pm, with a presentation ceremony later in the day.
