Police have issued CCTV images of a man they need to trace after an elderly couple had their Audi stolen from outside a newsagent in Burnley on Sunday 7th April.

The robbery took place around 8.40am when the 83 year old victim parked his blue Audi A4 outside Coal Clough News on Coal Clough Lane whilst he called in at the shop for a newspaper.

The victim’s wife remained sat in the front passenger seat with the key in the ignition when a man has climbed into the driver’s side of the car and driven the vehicle away with the victim still aboard.

The man has repeatedly ordered her to get out of the car whilst it was in motion and he has then slowed the car and pushed the elderly victim out of the vehicle causing her to fall to the ground. He has then driven off.

Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak with in connection with the offence who they believe could be from the Manchester area.

DC Russ Hilton from Pennine Target Team said:

This is a shocking crime against an elderly retired couple who has simply called into a local shop for a Sunday paper. The 83 year old victim was taken to Royal Blackburn hospital and treated for shock; fortunately she only suffered minor injuries.

“I’d ask people to take a close look at the CCTV images and if they recognise the man or have any information that could assist with our investigation to get in touch.

“The man in the CCTV has entered the newsagents prior to the offence stating his was going to get a train back to Manchester so it is likely he is not local. He is described as scruffy and gaunt in appearance with a very pronounced nose.

“The car’s registration is P70 WCB so I would also be keen to hear from anybody that saw this vehicle on Sunday 7th April or knows of its current location to call Lancashire Police on 101
