A robber has broken an elderly pensioner's hip to steal a jar of jam and a tub of coleslaw.

The 88-year-old woman was targeted on Trent Walk, Droylsden last Friday afternoon. The attacker came up behind the elderly pensioner, grabbed her shopping bag, and sent her crashing to the ground. He ran off with the bag, and its meagre contents.

The robber is described as white, young, slim, medium height, and with dark hair.

Detective Sergeant Dave Donlan, said: “I can’t believe anyone would be that desperate to get their hands on some food but quite what the offender thought an elderly woman with a shopping bag was carrying other than groceries is beyond me."

The victim is now being treated in hospital. Her condition is listed as stable.
