Police on Merseyside are targeting irresponsible dog owners after a spate of animal attacks. They will stop owners out on streets and in parks, who have animals that are not under control.

The clampdown will last for six weeks. It is a response to deaths like that of toddler John Paul Massey, who was attacked by a dog at his grandmother's home in Liverpool, and pensioner Clifford Clarke who was mauled by a dog in his own garden.
