A man has been found guilty of raping a young, deaf girl he trafficked into Greater Manchester with his wife from Pakistan.
The girl who couldn't speak lived in the cellar of the couple's house in Eccles from the age of around 9 and was made to work as a slave by 84 year old Ilyas Ashar. The victim who was brought to the country in 2000 told the court of her abuse through sign language she'd been taught by experts and referred to Ashar as 'the bad old man'.
Ilyas Ashar was found guilty today at a re-trial of 13 counts of rape. He was found guilty at a previous trial of two counts of trafficking a person into the UK for exploitation.
His wife Tallat Ashar, 68, was also found guilty of two counts of trafficking a person into the UK for exploitation. The couple, alongside their daughter Faaiza Ashar, 46, were also found guilty of benefit fraud.
All three will be sentenced at a later date.
