A rapidly deepening area of low pressure is expected to develop on Saturday, running quickly northeastwards across western Scotland. As this happens, very strong southwest winds are likely to develop across much of northern UK, and will be accompanied for a time by an area of heavy rain.
A Met Office Warning for severe gales now covers Cumbria as well as the Isle of Man - where the winds are expected to be the strongest in our region with gusts possibly reaching 60-70mph for exposed coasts. The warning is currently in place from 6am until 9pm on Saturday.
Winds will develop and become very strong across the whole region on Saturday, accompanied by an area of heavy rain that will push south and east during the second half of the day. Gusts inland and away from the exposed west could still reach over 50mph for a time.Winds should ease late on Saturday but it will remain blustery for the rest of the weekend.
