Worst UK dog attacks in recent years

The death of 11-month-old Ava Jayne Marie Corless comes after a string of dog attacks in recent years.

In November 2013, 4-year-old Lexi Branson was mauled to death by her pet bulldog.

That was just 6 months after the death of 14-year-old Jade Anderson, killed by four dogs while visiting a friend in Wigan.

In 2009 three-month-old Jaden Mack was killed by a Staffordshire bull terrier and a Jack Russell at his grandmother's home in South Wales.

In the same year, four-year-old John-Paul Massey died at his grandmother's house in Liverpool after suffering "massive injuries" inflicted by a pitbull, a breed banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Eight-day-old Harry Harper died from a head injury in November 2012 after being bitten by a dog in Ketley, Telford.

A post-mortem concluded the cause of death was a "significant" head injury, caused by the family Jack Russell.

The breed of the dog that killed Ava-Jayne Corless has not yet been identified.
