Severe gales and potentially damaging storm force winds at first, particularly across Lancashire. Heavy rain continues at first, falling as snow over the Pennines with blizzard conditions possible.

Wind and rain gradually easing during the early hours. Lows 0 °C.

Thursday:

Brighter spells and scattered showers, these most frequent during the afternoon, perhaps bringing more persistent rain for a time over Lancashire and Cumbria and turning wintry at times, with hill snow.

Staying windy, although less severe. Gusts 50-60mph possible in the west. Highs 6 °C.

Outlook:

Clear and cold at first on Friday but turning wet and windy from the south in the afternoon/evening with hill snow.

Rain clearing northeastwards on Saturday, again - wintry over higher ground.

Sunday looks drier and brighter with lighter winds.
