Ice Warning for Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire East & Cheshire West and Chester - valid from just after midnight on Saturday 22 March until 8am Saturday 22 March.

The public should be aware of possible disruption to travel due to icy surfaces on Friday night and early on Saturday morning.A band of showers moves eastwards across England and Wales on Friday evening with heavy bursts likely.

Roads will remain wet from showers Friday evening and overnight into Saturday. These showers will continue to fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and hail with snow mostly over higher ground. Some higher routes, e.g. trans-Pennine routes, could see temporary snow accumulations of 2-5cm.There will be more in the way of cloud breaks forming through the early hours of Saturday morning so with wet surfaces and surface temperatures falling below freezing in places, we expect icy stretches to form.
