Foal named after Brazilian footballer during World Cup
It’s a foal! As the World Cup began in Brazil last weekLancashire Wildlife Trust was celebrating a new star arriving to help on its Longworth Clough nature reserve.
A spindly Exmoor pony foal was born joining the five ponies already keeping plants down to manageable levels on the reserve close to Belmont.
The ponies belong to Michael Dewhurst, but join sheep and cattle as part of the Wildlife Trust’s conservation grazing team, managed by grazing officer Sian Parry and reserve officer John Haddon. They spend time in parts of the reserve chomping down long grass and shrubs and leaving areas where native plants can thrive.
John said: “It was exciting when the foal was born and after four days it seems to be doing really well. We have not decided on a name yet.”
Sticking to the World Cup theme, perhaps Neigh-Mar would be a good choice!
