Volunteers are needed to help construct a 110m water slide running through Wigan town centre this weekend.

Ticket to Slide will be built out of hay bales, plastic sheeting, foam and rubber matting by Wigan and Leigh Hospice- in partnership with Wigan Council- this morning (August 16) and will run the length of Standishgate.

Anyone willing to help between 9am and 11am on Saturday and Sunday, and again between 4pm and 5pm, is asked to contact the hospice.

So far around 900 tickets have been sold with around 100 still available for Sunday.

It is longer than a similar slide which ran in Bristol earlier the year and the Wigan version will have two lanes to allow participants to race each other.

Ticket to Slide will run from 11.30am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Participants (must be aged 10 years or over) are allowed to bring lilos to ride on, although organisers say it is not necessary.
