Fuel banks aid "heat or eat" dilemma for thousands

Launched in April 2015, the Fuel BankTM aims to remove the stark choice between heating or eating. They've now issued thousands of vouchers for food bank users, many who have gone without heat or electricity in order to save money. On the Wirral, 13 foodbank centres are part of the initiative giving people around two weeks’ worth of energy which they can use to top up their gas and electricity prepayment meters. More than 7500 people have been helped so far.

Food and fuel poverty so often go hand in hand. In the past we have found that many who use our foodbank have not had the means to cook the food provided, and indeed heat their homes.
