Police find pick-up truck used in M62 road rage attack

Road rage incident caught on CCTV on M62, Eccles Photo: GMP

Police have traced a pick-up truck driven by a road rage motorist who reversed the vehicle into a lorry and smashed a window with a spade.

The incident, caught on CCTV, happened on November 9 at midday after two vehicles collided as they accessed a busy motorway in the North West.

The pick-up truck driver remains at large though and no arrests have been made, it is understood.

Footage released on Tuesday showed two men in a large lorry and a man in a pick-up truck on the M62 in Eccles exchanging numbers on the hard shoulder, moments before the abuse started.

Wearing a yellow high-visibility all-in-one, the truck driver can be seen engaging in a heated exchange with one of the men before wrestling him towards the lorry.

He then reverses his truck into the lorry with such force that the contents of the truck's flatbed are sent flying backwards, before he tries to pull off the wing mirror.

In a dramatic conclusion, after trying to get into the cabin of the lorry with the driver and passenger locked inside, the man heads over to his truck and retrieves a spade before smashing the driver's window with the implement. Both the lorry driver and passenger were said to have been "terrified" by the incident.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 6108 or 101, or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
