Heavy police presence for Elton John concert on Saturday

Elton John is performing in Blackburn on Saturday Credit: PA

A strong policing operation will be in place tomorrow night when Elton John performs at Ewood Park in Blackburn.

A significant number of officers, some of whom will be armed, will be deployed both in and around the stadium, at transport hubs, and on surrounding streets, to provide reassurance for those attending and to help the organisers ensure the event runs smoothly and safely for all involved.

Large bags and hampers are not being allowed into the stadium and there will be increased checks and searches on the doors. Fans are advised to arrive as early as possible to reduce delays, as the extra security measures may result in queues.

It is expected up to 15,000 people will be attending the concert.

This is going to be a fantastic event and we are very much looking forward to welcoming Elton John to east Lancashire on Saturday night.

We know some concert-goers may have concerns about security on the night in light of recent events, but we would like to reassure those coming that we have received no specific information of a threat to the event.

Nevertheless we have stepped up security measures and will have a significant police presence – including armed officers – in and around the venue to ensure the evening is safe and enjoyable for all.

There will also be additional security checks on the doors and we would encourage people to arrive early to allow time for this. Where possible we would also ask people to leave bags at home to reduce delays.
