Merseyside Police detectives are appealing for information after an attempted armed robbery at a restaurant in West Kirby in the early hours of Friday 9th June.

At around 1.05am, a report was received of four men entering Le Jardin on Grange Road, armed with weapons including machetes and what was described as a handgun, believed to have been a replica. The owner challenged the men and was struck causing a cut to his arm. The men made off empty handed.

Witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing and detectives wish to speak to anyone who saw men acting suspiciously around Grange Road in the early hours of the morning, or making off towards the direction of Hoylake just after 1am.

These types of incidents are extremely rare in the area and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us immediately, to remove these people from the streets.

Thankfully the owner was not seriously injured and nothing was taken but to be attacked in such a way is despicable and desperate behaviour. The victim showed extreme bravery in defending himself and will be fully supported by officers as we launch our investigation.

Any piece of information, however small, may be vital for our investigation.

I want to assure all residents and businesses that we will do everything possible to identify the offender and bring him to justice, and ensure that West Kirby continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit.
