Merseyside Police has launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a man inside a burnt out car in Everton last night.
Emergency services were called to Whitehaven Road at around 11.10pm to a report of a car on fire.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire before finding the body of a man inside the car.
A post mortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow to establish the cause of death. The man has yet to be formally identified and officers are seeking to establish his identity.
The scene where the car was found has been preserved and Crime Scene Investigators are currently carrying out forensic examinations at the scene. House-to-house enquiries are also being carried out in the surrounding area.
As part of the ongoing investigation scenes have been established in the Bootle and Wavertree areas.
A 31 year-old man from the Bootle area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 31-year-old woman, also from the Bootle area, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both are being questioned by detectives today.
