Police in Lancashire are trying to trace a ‘violent’ offender wanted on recall to prison.

James Butterworth, 34, was due to attend his bail hostel in Bury on Wednesday after being released from prison having served his sentence for threatening door staff at a Blackburn bar with a knife in March.

Police are urging the public not to approach him.

Sgt Paul Watterson from Blackburn Police said:

Butterworth has a history of violence having been convicted for a number of assaults in the past. I would ask the public not to approach him but instead call the police immediately.

Our priority is to find Butterworth and so we need anyone who may have seen him or knows of his whereabouts to speak to us as soon as possible.

Similarly I would urge Butterworth himself to attend a local police station before he makes matters worse for himself.
