A police station and a major road have been closed after a man was found with stab wounds following a street brawl. Police received several calls around 1.30pm that a group were fighting in the street in Newton Heath.
Several eyewitnesses reported seeing a firearm.
When officers arrived at the scene, just yards from their own headquarters, the group had dispersed but two cars were found abandoned.
Around the same time, a man was found with stab wounds outside Central Park Police station, part of the GMP HQ complex around the corner.
He was rushed to hospital with what are described as serious injuries.
It is unclear whether the two incidents are linked at this stage.
As it stands no gun has been found or any evidence that a weapon was discharged on Oldham Road, GMP say.
But they have cordoned a stretch of the road between Grimshaw Lane and Ten Acres Lane while they carry out enquiries into the incident.
Diversions are in place and people are being asked to avoid the area. The area outside the station where the man was found has also been taped off eyewitnesses said.
A GMP spokesman, said: "At around 1.30pm police received a report of a fight on Oldham Road, Newton Heath, in which a gun had been seen.
"Officers attended and the group had dispersed prior to police arrival.
"A short time later, a man with stab wounds entered Central Park Police Station on Northampton Road. He has been taken to hospital for his injuries."
