The former Manchester United owner Martin Edwards says he was 'hurt' by criticism from supporters during his time as chairman.

In his 22 years in charge he was the man behind appointing Sir Alex Ferguson and saw United become the world's first one billion pound football club. Now aged in his 70s, Edwards has decided to open up on his time at the top and revealed Arsenal's Arsene Wenger and former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson were lined up to replace Sir Alex Ferguson when he thought about retirement in 2002.

He's been speaking to our sports correspondent David Chisnall.
