Police detectives investigating the murder of Sam Cook have arrested two people on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 27-year-old man from Cressington and a 39-year-old woman from Speke have been taken to a police station for questioning.

Sam Cook, from Crosby, Merseyside, died in hospital after being stabbed in the basement area of the Liverpool Empire bar and nightclub in Seel Street, Liverpool, just before midnight on Saturday October 21.

Police are continuing to appeal for information on the whereabouts of 22-year-old Carl Madigan from Speke, who detectives believe may have information that could be vital to their investigation. Officers are asking him to come forward immediately to assist.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Tivendale said:

Carl Madigan is someone we are very keen to speak to as soon as possible, as we continue our investigation into Sam’s tragic murder just over four weeks ago.

"I would advise the public not to approach Madigan directly if you see him, contact police on 999 immediately and allow us to take the necessary action.

"I also want to make it clear that anyone found to be assisting Madigan will be arrested and face being brought before the courts, so I would encourage anyone with information to do the right thing and come forward as soon as possible.

"We are grateful to all those who have come forward so far in connection with Sam’s murder, all of which is helping us progress the investigation."

Detectives are appealing for people with information to come forward and have issued a further reminder to people with any images or video from Saturday, 21 October, to send them to a dedicated email address for further investigation. The email address is: samcookmurder@merseyside.police.uk and anyone with photos or video can be assured that anything sent will be treated in confidence.
