Heavy and persistent snow that was forecast for South Lancashire, Greater Manchester and north of the Mersey stayed further south and east. The usual prone spots over the Pennines as well as South Merseyside, Cheshire and Derbyshire.
Today's high resolution snap shot of the UK, thanks to NASA, shows the clear skies across most parts of NW England today.
It may look like cloud cover but when you look at the enhanced colour version the lying snow across the region, indicated in red, is very clear.
