Criminal charges brought over New Ferry blast

A man and a gas supply firm have been charged over the devastating explosion in New Ferry, Wirral, last March.

Pascal Blasio, who now lives in Kent, is accused of causing an explosion likely to endanger life.

He was the owner of Homes in Style furniture shop, at the centre of the blast which tore through the town's main shopping street that Saturday evening.

The 56-year-old is expected to appear before Wirral Magistrates in April.

Contract Natural Gas Limited, an independent gas supplier, has been charged with with an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Two people were seriously injured while dozens of residents were left homeless and businesses destroyed by the blast.
