Further weather hazards - Ice and hill snow

Warning for ice until 11am Sunday Photo: Met Office/ ITV

A combination of low temperature and surfaces being wet from rain, sleet or snow and a partial thaw of lying snow will lead to icy stretches affecting untreated surfaces.

Icy stretches will continue to be likely on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths during the rest of Saturday onwards into Sunday. In addition some snow is likely at times, although away from higher ground amounts are likely to be small. As a result, driving conditions may become difficult and there is an increased chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

A further 1-2 cm of snow will affect the Pennines the Peak District and Cumbrian hills overnight into Sunday morning before the rain pushes north and temperatures gradually begin to rise
