'Small fire' at the top of Blackpool Tower

Visitors are being held in a ‘safe area’ at the top of Blackpool Tower after reports of a fire within the landmark site.

Four fire crews are currently at the iconic structure in Blackpool town centre.

Nobody has been injured but several people are being held ‘in a safe area’ at the top of the tower, fire chiefs say.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service reported details of the incident on Twitter.

They wrote:

We have four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform at Blackpool Tower following reports of a fire. No injuries have been reported but several people are being held in a safe area at the top of the tower.

Blackpool Police reported that Bank Hey Street has been closed as a precaution.
