Snow has caused more problems for motorists in parts of the North West and led to the cancellation of some events. There was fresh snowfall overnight from a weather system which has been called 'The Beast From The East 2'. Some roads were left impassible. Glossop Road near Marple was closed and vehicles were stranded near Littleborough.
Bus routes, especially across Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside, have been affected. There have also been delays at Manchester Airport as planes had to de-ice before take-off. The icy weather caused the cancellation of events including the Wilmslow Half Marathon and Wigan Warriors away match at Castleford. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice until midnight. Derbyshire Police are warning motorists in Glossop, Buxton and surrounding areas to only travel if absolutely necessary due to snow. Gritting and ploughing are underway to clear roads, but freezing temperatures and strong winds are making driving conditions treacherous.
