Children 'very, very disappointed' after 50 donated trees stolen from primary school

Dozens of newly-planted trees have been stolen from the grounds of a primary school repeatedly hit by vandals and thieves.

About 50 saplings were taken from Castleton Primary School in Rochdale.

They'd be donated by a charity to help the school create a mini-forest.

Staff said the theft was "very strange".

Staff say that sadly, children are used to thieves targeting the school.

50 trees have just magically disappeared. It’s very strange. Because so many trees have gone from a perfect section the only thing we can put it down to is theft.

The children are very, very disappointed, but sadly this is a fairly frequent occurrence for us.

The charity City of Trees has replaced the stolen saplings.

Parents now want to raise £3000 to put up a fence around the growing forest.
