Thunderstorm risk into Sunday

Photo:

As heat and humidity rises this weekend there is now an increased risk that southern and far western parts of the region will experience some very heavy and thundery outbreaks from the early hours of Sunday morning,

Whilst many areas will see small amounts of rain a few locations may see some very large totals with 30 mm possible within an hour and perhaps up to 80 mm in 3 hours.

Along with this hail and thunder are likely as well as some locally strong gusts.

Forecasting the exact location is almost impossible, but where the showers do form they will be slow moving, torrential and potentially merge into persistent downpours.

Areas currently most at risk and under a Met Office Yellow 'Be Aware' rain warning are - High Peak, Cheshire, Merseyside, Isle of Man and maybe parts of Greater Manchester and Lancashire. North lancs and Cumbria are best placed to escape with a dry and warm day.
