Dedicated football fans have given their street an incredible patriotic makeover for the World Cup - and have changed its name from Wales Street to England Street.

More than 1,000 yards of bunting hangs between houses, with dozens of flags and new street signs.

Wales Street in Oldham, Greater Manchester, has been temporarily renamed England Street for the fifth time to celebrate the tournament taking place in Russia.

The Three Lions’ humiliating exit to Iceland at Euro 2016 has not stopped residents getting in the mood ahead of the World Cup.

Chris Farrand organised the makeover, putting up decorations with neighbours in his spare time.

The director of Griffiths and Johnson, an engineering firm in Oldham, said:

Lots of people have been coming up and down the street to take photographs. “It has become a bit of a tourist attraction.”

Every household on the street chipped in £5 towards the decorations.

The residents are hopeful of glory.

Chris said:

I am the same as everyone else in living in hope.

"Hopefully we get off to a good start against Tunisia. I’ll be watching at the pub."

Brian Burrows said:

The flags are up regardless of the level of expectation. "They stay up for the final even if England are not there, and usually come down a week or so after the tournament has ended. “I think everyone should do this as it shows your patriotism.”

Doug McDonald added:

This has become a tradition for us. I still expect England to win it.

"We have a young team who are not scared of anybody, so lets go for it. Jordan Pickford will have a good World Cup. He is a promising young keeper.”
