There are 180,780 people on the housing waiting list in the North West.

Salma is one of them.

When her husband suddenly died she was unable to afford the rent.

Salma and her children now face eviction.

Bolton Council released a statement:

Unfortunately for many families a sudden change of circumstances, through no fault of their own, can make it difficult for them to meet their financial commitments.

“We don’t want to see anyone lose their home and we will do everything we can to help prevent this from happening.

“During 2017 to 2018, we helped more than a 1,000 households to stay in their homes who would otherwise have become homeless.

“Our Housing Options team give practical support that can help to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless.

“Where people are having difficulty with their finances, our advisors can offer debt advice and we can also intervene with landlords to resolve tenancy issues.

“We can also assist people to find suitable housing through a range of options including the Homes for Bolton Housing register.

“If someone is at threat of losing their home or has debt concerns they can contact our Housing Options Services on 01204 335900 or by email housing.options@bolton.gov.uk."

– Bolton Council spokesman
  • UPDATE: Salma has been given priority status on the register.
