Police are appealing for information after armed officers arrested a man in the city centre.

At around 1.35pm on Monday 20 August 2018, police were called to reports of a man with a knife on Faulkner Street.

Armed police attended and immediately searched the area before an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray. He has since been bailed until 13 September pending further enquiries.

There are no reported injuries and enquiries are ongoing.

Police Sergeant Charlotte Roche of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said:

While the man is on bail, this does not mean that our enquiries will diminish or that we will stop working to find out exactly what happened yesterday afternoon.

From the accounts we’ve received so far, this was extremely frightening and, as this was in the middle of the day, a number of people would have seen what had happened.

We need people to contact us immediately if they saw anything or know anything that could assist us with our investigation.
