Police statement on removal of tributes

Merseyside Police, following consultation with Liverpool City Council, can confirm that floral tributes to Joseph Thompson, who was murdered last week, have been removed from Ravensthorpe Green, Norris Green, following concerns raised within the community.

Historically, when tributes like this have been laid we have seen an increase in anti-social behaviour because they have become a focal point for groups to gather.

We have listened to concerns raised within the community and have acted upon them. We want the area to get back to normal as quickly as possible and we will continue to take robust action against those involved in gun and gang crime .

Any non-perishable items recovered from the tributes, these include scarves, cards and photographs, will be given to the family of the victim.

– Chief Superintendent Jon Ward, Merseyside Police
