Drivers across the region are being warned of the dangers of getting behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs.
Police forces across the region have launched their annual Christmas clampdown today. On Merseyside last year they saw an increase in the number of people being arrested.
Our correspondent Andy Bonner has been finding out how police are trying to tackle the problem:
Police in Merseyside and Lancashire are launching a campaign against drink-driving over the festive period.
People are being encouraged to stay away from the festive spirit if they're thinking of driving over Christmas. An increased number of officers will be out on the roads.
