Police have confirmed that a body found in a river in Stockport is that of a 22 year old man from the town who went missing on New Year's Eve.
Michael Simpson was last seen after he left a house party in Bredbury. Mel Barham has more:
Police in Stockport have found the body of missing Michael Simpson in the River Goyt.Shortly before 2.30pm yesterday afternoon specialist officers made the discovery near to the Pear Mill Industrial Estate. Michael's family has been informed.
Detective Inspector Julia Bowden from Stockport CID said:
"Our thoughts and condolences are with Michael's family at this devastating time after we have today identified him as the man found in water in Bredbury yesterday afternoon. Our officers are doing all they can to support Michael's family.
"We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Michael's death." Michael, aged 22 and from Heaton Norris, was last seen at 2am on 1 January 2013 as he attended a New Year's Eve party at a friend's house on Stockport Road West in Bredbury.
Police searching for two missing men have found a body in Bredbury.
Michael Simpson, 22, from Heaton Norris, has not been seen since leaving a New Year's Eve party.
Neil Marsom, 38, from Sale, has not been seen since January 3.
Shortly before 2.30pm today, specialist officers searching the River Goyt made the discovery near the Pear Mill industrial estate.
The families of both men have been told.
