The Coronation Street actor entered no plea but his solicitor indicates he will fully contest the charges.
The case has been referred to Manchester Crown Court for March 20th.

The Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell is due to appear in court today charged with 19 child sex offences.
The 48-year-old actor, whose real name is Michael Turner, is accused of raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child, among other charges.
Le Vell denies the accusations and has vowed to "fight them vigorously".
The actor will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court later today.
