Lia Green trial opens in Preston

A court has heard how a three-year-old girl suffered terrible abdominal injuries after being attacked by her father.

Preston Crown Court was told Lia Green died from injuries only normally sustained in a car accident.

Her father denies her murder. Her mother denies causing or allowing the death of a child.

The trial of Richard Green accused of murdering his three year old daughter Lia has begun at Preston Crown Court.

Lia's mother Natalie Critchley is charged with causing or allowing her daughter's death. Both parents plead not guilty. Our Correspondent Gregg Easteal is in court:

A Lancashire man's gone on trial charged with murdering his three year old daughter.

Lia Green died after being taken ill on August 30th last year.

The toddler was taken to Royal Preston Hospital from her home in Plungington, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Richard Green, 23, of Harling Street, Ribbleton is charged with murder. Lia's mother Natalie Critchley, 21, of Norris Street, Plungington, is charged with causing or allowing her daughters death.

The prosecution has told the jury at Preston Crown Court the youngster died from blunt force to her abdomen and her body was extensively bruised.

The accused plead not guilty to the charges against them. The trial continues.
