A 3 year old boy has died after a fireplace apparently fell on him at his home in Birkenhead.

Postmortem reveals boy died from head injuries

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a post mortem carried out following the death of three-year-old James Curtis in Tranmere has concluded that he died as a result of a blunt force trauma to the head.

Emergency services were called to a property in St Catherines Gardens to a report a three-year-old boy had been injured after a fireplace fell on him on Monday.

Paramedics took the boy to hospital where he later died.

Police say the matter is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

The parents of a toddler who died when a marble fireplace fell on him at a house in Birkenhead say they are devastated by his death.

Three-year-old James Curtis died in hospital on Monday

His mother Charlotte Edwards and his father Nic Curtis have paid tribute to him:

''James' death has devastated the whole family and has left a huge hole in all our lives. He made us feel so important and now he is gone we both feel so empty.''

"We both have so many memories of James that we will never forget as he will always be in our thoughts.''
