Storms trigger floods

Fire fighters across the region are responding incidents of localised flooding caused by a storm earlier this morning. Roads in Burnage have been affected while lightning strikes caused a house fire in Crosby and a power cut in the centre of Burnley.

Violent storms batter region

There's been a violent end to our three week heatwave as the region was battered overnight by thunder storms. Train services out of Manchester's main railway station suffered major disruption after lightning hit the signalling system.

The roof of a church in Lancashire caved in when lightning struck.

The change in weather comes after the hottest temperatures in seven years - which peaked on Monday at 33.5C.

Fire fighters across the North West are responding to floods caused by thunderstorms.

Several roads in Greater Manchester have been affected, while lightning strikes caused a house fire in Crosby and a power cut in the centre of Burnley.
