Man critically ill after sea rescue

A man from the North West is fighting for his life in hospital, and another has died after they got into difficulties in the sea off Anglesey. Its understood the man died trying to help two other men. The third was rescued by lifeboat crews.

"Due to the rising tide and rough seas it was extremely difficult for the lifeboat to reach the casualty. The lifeboat tried to veer down onto the rocks so the crew member could transfer the casualty onto the lifeboat but the rough seas made the manoeuvre very difficult. An RNLI crewmember decided to jump into the sea and swim to the rocks to assist the teenager until the lifeboat was able to get closer to the scene."

"Inquiries are ongoing in a bid to establish the full circumstances of the incident and are working with our colleagues in other agencies."
