The Reverend Robert Gallagher has worked at an inner city church in Liverpool for almost a quarter of a century.
And he wants to continue.
But Church of England rules mean he must step down by his 70th birthday. Now there's a campaign been launched to allow him to stay.
A spokesman for the Diocese of Liverpool said they were aware of the campaign. "While we acknowledge their feelings, it doesn't alter the fact that under Ecclesiastical Law there is no grounds for an extension and Father Robert will retire on August 19th.
"We will then announce details of how we intend to continue worship at St Margaret’s Toxteth.”
