Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been celebrating a significant birthday of an old favourite .
The Big Dipper was a great innovation back in 1923 - costing a shilling a ride.
Now its somewhat overshadowed by the Big One - but as Paul Crone discovered its still providing thrills on its 90th birthday.

Doris Thompson, the queen of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, remembers the opening of the resort's Big Dipper.
Doris, who died in 2004 aged 101, was awarded an MBE and an OBE for her charity work and was one of the promenade's brightest stars

Blackpool Pleasure Beach's Big Dipper is celebrating its 90th birthday today. Here's some facts and figures about the famous old rollercoaster:
Built in 1923 by John Miller, it was extended in 1936 by Charlie Paige and Joe Emberton
Richard Rodriguez celebrates riding the Big Dipper for 2000 hours

The ride operates with two trains, each containing three four-bench cars, seating two people per bench
In August 1998, American Richard Rodriguez set a world record by continuously riding the Big Dipper for over 1000 hours, he then went on to double this mark two years later to 2000 hours

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is celebrating the ninetieth birthday of it's most iconic rollercoasters, the Big Dipper.
The white-knuckle ride opened back in 1923 and is one of the oldest attractions at the resort.
